“Mosaic art opened a door to a different kind of life — creative, calm, connected — and these days, I find just as much joy in helping others discover that path as I do in walking it myself.”
I’ve been a full-time mosaic artist since 2000, but the real story started one quiet night when I tried making a mosaic for the first time. I can’t remember what made me pick up the tiles — but I still remember the sense of calm that washed over me. Something just clicked.
At the time, I was running a successful consulting business after a 20-year career in banking and finance. I had the freedom I thought I wanted, but something was missing. I didn’t feel at home in that world. Within days of trying mosaics, I knew I was being pulled in a new direction. Within three months, I’d left the corporate world for good.
Since then, I’ve dedicated myself to mosaic art — and the journey has taken me to places I never imagined. I’ve created large-scale mosaic murals around Australia and the world and had the honour of working with schools and remote towns to create works for their own communities, I also teach weekly mosaic classes in Maleny, where I focus on helping students gain confidence, develop their own unique style, and enjoy the calming, connective experience of working with their hands.

For me, mosaics are about more than technique. They’re about expression. There’s no “right” way to do it — I always tell beginners that design has no rules. What matters is that your work reflects you. That said, I do place great importance on good construction techniques so that each piece is made to last.
These days, my focus is on making mosaic art more accessible — especially through my growing library of DIY mosaic eBooks. I created these guides so anyone, anywhere in the world, can experience the same creative freedom and inner calm that mosaics brought me. Whether you’re in a city studio or a country shed, you can learn mosaics at home and make something meaningful with your own two hands.
In the studio, I’m currently working on a large-scale mosaic reproduction of The Kiss by Gustav Klimt — a collaborative project with my ceramicist partner that’s shaping up to be a defining piece of our career.
Wherever you’re starting from, I hope my story reminds you that it’s never too late to follow your creative spark. Mosaic art is a beautiful way to reconnect — to yourself, to your senses, and sometimes even to a whole new way of living.
